Learnings from Interview Discussions

When I am interviewing someone I am not hiring a guy to work for the company I work for, but instead a possible colleague. It is never about the years of experience it is more about the ability to learn and the passion for the work. The idea is never to look out for a match for the requirement but look out for potential, drive and skills beyond the requirement at hand. Few things topmost in my list to look out for beyond just the technical know how in general.

1. Awareness in general about the technological trends and how much effort goes in updating and upgrading himself
2. Can have preference for but should not be constrained by a technology stack
3. Self-educator and the zeal for learning and sharing
4. More the drive for taking up new challenges and responsibilities, the better
5. Should have no retrain on the type of role or specific designation ( I always believe let HR handle the designation because that is where it belongs)

I have seen people with more then 5 years of experience, they do not want to take up logical reasoning and aptitude tests as they think it is meant for newbies and the years of experience they have speaks for itself but I fail to understand how can year of experience prove their smartness. Damn they never get it. Years of Experience Myth Years of Experience Myth is an interesting read

Keep it simple look out for smart and passionate people with an appetite for risk and you will have a great colleague to work with. Never Interview always have a discussion and remember always start with introducing yourself
